Medication: Dyazide (Combination)

Written by: jchodirker | Posted: Apr 24 2009

How Dyazide Reduces Blood Pressure

Dyazide is a combination of (triamterene and hydrochlorothiazide)(HCTZ).

Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that decreases the amount of fluid in your body by increasing the amount of salt and water you lose in your urine.

Triamterene is a potassium-sparing diuretic that also prevents your body from absorbing too much salt and keeps your potassium levels from getting too low.

The combination of these two drugs forms Dyazide which is used to treat blood pressure.

Other combination drugs include Benicar HCT, Avalide, and Lotrel.

Although these medications are beneficial, many times they are not enough to control your blood pressure.
